8 Amazing Chalk and Whiteboard Home Decorating Ideas
Posted Jul 09, 2015
Interior painting trends come and go, but one of our favorite home decorating ideas that’s here to stay is chalkboard paint. You’d be hard pressed to find a store in the LaFayette, CO area that doesn’t feature this painting trend somewhere. These days, chalkboard paint doesn’t only come in black and classic green, there are endless chalkboard paint colors to choose from.
Building on this well established interior decorating trend, the paint brands that make chalkboard paint are also manufacturing a dry-erase, whiteboard paint as well. The applications for these two paints in your home are endless, but to narrow things down a bit, here is a list of eight, great ideas to get you started.
- White Board Desktop - Not in love with your current desktop finish? White board paint the surface of it and give yourself a crisp finish and a perfect home for jotting down notes and lists.
- Chalkboard Paint your fridge- Your fridge may look dingy, but it’s hard to get rid of a functional appliance. Instead, consider reviving it with chalkboard paint. Be sure to use a magnetic primer first if you want it to retain the magnetic finish.
- Grocery List- Make a large white-board, bordered in a brightly colored frame to catch your grocery needs as they pop up. Consider ordering a decal with the word “grocery” in a colorful font to grace the top of it.
- Childhood Whimsy Wall- Chalkboard paint a wall in your child’s room so they can draw, learn math and practice their penmanship. Not only will this wall be stylish and trendy, but it will display your child’s personality and enhance their fine motor skills.
- Chore Chart- Make a chore chart for your kids by whiteboard painting a wall or large board and dividing it up using colorful washi tape. Consider using magnetic primer beforehand so your child can fill their boxes with magnetic stars.
- What’s for Dinner? Create a home for your weekly menu by chalkboard painting your pantry door (either inside or out). Keep a small bowl of chalk nearby for easy planning as you plot how to cook up your delicious LaFayette farmer’s market finds.
- Shirts, Socks, Underwear- Use whiteboard paint on the drawer fronts of a dresser and label the content of each drawer in colored white board marker. For younger children, draw a picture of each item of clothing, so they can dress themselves and put their laundry away with ease.
- Command Center- Use magnetic primer in combination with dry erase paint to create a large calendar-command center for your home or family. Use either painter’s tape or washi tape to create crisp lines for each daily square to create order from chaos and add a beautiful design element to your kitchen or office.
As you attempt these projects, be sure to follow the directions provided by the manufacturer and allow your paint plenty of time to cure. Prolong the life of your chalkboard paint projects by rubbing the entire piece down with white chalk prior to use.
